Toblerone has been forced to remove the Matterhorn mountain from its packaging.
👉 Background: Toblerone is the choccy bar with distinctive triangular packaging. It also has an iconic illustration of the Matterhorn mountain on it too.
👉 What happened: Now, Toblerone, the Swiss-founded company, has now been forced to remove the Matterhorn mountain from its packaging.
👉 What else: It seems that Toblerone doesn’t qualify under the strict rules for its “Swissness” anymore since moving some of its production from Switzerland to Slovakia - so those Swiss Alps have gotta go!
💡 Provenance matters when it comes to countries…and quality. Back in 2017, Switzerland enforced “Swisness” regulation, meaning you could only use the Swiss flag or other images typical of Switzerland if it satisfied certain, strict criteria.
💡The idea is that if you know a product or service is Swiss, then you can be assured that it’s of good quality.
💡Since more than 80% of a product's raw materials must be Swiss in origin, Toblerone will now lose its Swissness. Instead, they will say "created in Switzerland".
