Wave goodbye to scam texts, because Telstra's blocking dodgy messages.
👉 Background: Telstra processes around 50 million messages text messages a day. But half of those end up being dodgy parcel notifications (or at least it feels that way).
👉 What happened: Telstra has launched a new scam filter designed to stop automated scam campaigns (bye bye Clive Palmer).
👉 What else: Telstra reckon they'll block up to 2 million malicious messages each day.
💡 The sophistication and scale of cyber attacks is on the rise in Australia. In fact, the Australian Competition and Consumer Watchdog says Aussies lost $38 million to scams in February this year alone, up from $14.5 million in February 2020.
💡 So, why the massive spike? Telstra thinks the acceleration in digital adoption driven by COVID got scammers more excited than Anna Delvey walking into a luxury hotel.
💡 The change to working / studying from home gave scammers way more opportunities to trick people into handing over their deets.
