Snooze has been looking for a buyer, but now the deal has been put down for a nap.
👉 Background: Snooze (formerly known as Capt'n Snooze) is one of the OG mattress and bedroom furniture companies in Australia. It started out with one store back in 1974, but now they've got more than 80 across the country.
👉 What happened: Snooze is owned by large retailer Greenlit Brands (also the owner of Freedom and Fantastic Furniture). Greenlit has been looking for a Snoozey-buyer for a while, but now the deal has been put down for a nap.
👉 What else: Snooze reckons its business is the real deal thanks to its vertically integrated supply chain... but potential buyers think its recent success is just part of a pandemic furniture boom (anyone else work-from-bed?).
💡Vertical integration is when a company takes control of different stages of its own production process (think: manufacturing, logistics, warehousing etc)
💡It's beneficial because it can help businesses reduce disruptions...like a global supply chain shortage. It can also help reduce costs because there are fewer companies taking a clip along the way.
💡 In Snooze’s case, it's got a subsidiary called FutureSleep making mattresses locally and another one called G&G that imports and distributes furniture. But unfortunately, its vertical integration hasn't been enough to wake up investors.
