Australia's two biggest telcos are at it again...this time, the fight is over 5G.
Background: Telstra is Australia's biggest and most popular telco. Optus is owned by Singapore's Singtel, and it's second for mobile phones. And boy, oh boy, have these two been at it for decades.
What happened: Optus has written a letter to the ACCC claiming Telstra's sabotaging its push for 5G progress by using more than they need to.
What else: By doing that, Optus reckon Telstra have hobbled its $1.5 billion investment into 5G, and 2.5 million Aussies' access to it.
🔔 What's the key learning?
💡In the business sense, hobbling occurs when a company deliberately tries to slow down a product or a competitor for their own financial gain...or another company's financial pain.
💡Apple hobbled the Google Assistant by making it a poor user experience on the iPhone... and Google hobbled Aussie company Unlockd by refusing to let it on the Google Play store.
💡But in the competitive world of telecommunications, this is just another example of one telco trying to get ahead of the other.
