Coles partners with Google's Wing to deliver groceries

Ya could say, Google's lending a 'wing' to Coles to help it meet instantdelivery demand.

What's the key learning?

  • Coles is partnering with Google's drone delivery service Wing, to deliver groceries to some suburbs in the ACT
  • With grocery shopping, we're seeing a big shift from bulk-buying to convenient, on-demand delivery
  • Startups like Milkrun have stepped in to meet demand...but now incumbents are catching up.

Background: In the wake of COVID, Coles and Woolies have stepped up their delivery and pick-up solutions. Ya know, Click and Collect...next-day delivery...

What happened: Now, Coles has gone one step flight further by partnering with Google's drone delivery service Wing, to deliver groceries to some suburbs in the ACT.

What else: Customers order via the Wing app, and voila! A drone appears in 10 minutes or less. Talk about on-demand. Just picture a Magnum ice-cream falling out of the sky.

🔔 What's the key learning?

💡With grocery shopping, we're seeing a big shift from bulk-buying to convenient, on-demand delivery.

💡In fact, 60% of consumers still plan to buy groceries online once COVID leaves for good (if that'll ever happen). But the problem is...next-day delivery just ain't it anymore. We want our pony and we want it now!

💡Cue the rise of startups like Milkrun and SEND, delivering our goods in minutes. But looks like the incumbents like Coles are catching up...and growing wings to compete.
