Amazon is the latest company to built a TikTok replica feature. Next up: myGov?

TikTok has found incredible success and now eeeeveryone wants a slice.

What's the key learning?

  • TikTok has around a billion monthly users and now heaps of other companies are launching copycat features
  • Amazon's testing a TikTok-like feature called Inspire
  • Amazon product recommendations are popular on TikTok, so Amazon likely hopes to bring that attention in-house

👉 Background: We all know the enormous success that TikTok has been able to achieve over the last 2-3 years. It has around one billion monthly users, spending around 52 minutes per day on the app.

👉 What happened: No surprises here: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, Spotify and Netflix are all very jealous… and have all launched their own versions.

👉 What else: And if that wasn’t enough, Amazon is testing a new photo and video feed called Inspire... More like Inspired-by-TikTok!

What's the key learning?

💡When a company creates value, it desperately needs to capture that value... or others will. Amazon's products are gaining a lot of attention on online, but it's happening outside Amazon's ecosystem.

💡On TikTok, Amazon product recommendations are extremely popular. Get this: the tag #amazonfinds has 25.6 billion views.

💡So, it makes sense that Amazon wants customers to find these “Amazon must-haves” on its own app. Now Amazon's challenge is just making sure customers get inspired and transact on The Zon itself.
